My experience working at a Startup

"Don't limit yourself to what you think you can't do."

Ever since I graduated as a UX designer in 2018, I started my career journey working as a website designer at Avenue, a marketing tech startup company. As a new grad, I couldn’t wait to get a start on my very first full-time job experience, so I would take any opportunities that came available to me during the time. I would consider myself lucky that I got the job because I knew my portfolio did not stand out as much compared to others.

During my first few months at Avenue, I was able to learn more than what I expected before I joined. I realize that there are greater things than just focusing on design in a working environment. It is about cross-functional collaboration, continuous improvement, the culture of recognition, and more importantly it is about putting people first. And these things deeply influence the process and outcome of design. With this encouraging and motivating environment, I was able to build up confidence in speaking about my work and share my feedback with team discussions.
